About Emporia

As stated earlier, Emporia was launched in 2018 through the teamwork of engineers, designers, and developers. The company believes in compassionate capitalism and is interested in understanding the impact of energy use and how you can harness it with technology.

Emporia prides itself on a lineup of products that help customers monitor and manage their household energy consumption. Among the brand's bestsellers is the Gen 2 Vue: Whole Home Energy Monitor.

Emporia Smart Plug Features

Installation

While the Emporia Plug doesn’t come with a user manual, the installation process remains straightforward thanks to the Emporia app. The app shows you how to connect the plug to your Wi-Fi by pressing the toggle switch on the plug for about six seconds. Keep in mind this plug works with a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network specifically.

Design & Power Load

One of the best things about the Emporia Smart Plug is that there are no moving parts. The product's plug and play capacity means you need to connect the plug-in mount to a regular 120 V electrical outlet, and you're done. There's no wiring and no fuss.

Then there's the fact that the plug itself is built to blend in. You don't have to worry about the Smart Plug taking up too much space thanks to its compact design or stress about it sticking out like a sore thumb. The plug's cylindrical shape gets rid of any potential for hazards as there are no sharp edges, and the toggle switch works well with the design.

There's a tiny LED status light on the plug that's pretty visible in low-light situations. However, there's no way to disable the status light. Finally, the plug has a max load of 15 A.

Quality Socket from Emporia—Competitively Priced

Another benefit that users can look forward to with the Emporia Smart Plug is its reasonable pricing. Considering the product's features include remote access via the app, scheduling, timers, and compatibility with voice assistants, the price of a single Emporia Smart Plug is less costly than brands like Wyze, Ezviz, Phillips, and Amazon.

What's more, the smart plug's cost-effective price doesn't affect the quality of its build. The plug's sturdy body weighs approximately 11.36 oz and feels solid. The product may be low-cost, but it's definitely not low-quality. Overall, the Emporia Smart Plug is a robust option for users looking to automate their devices and control the problem of vampire energy.

Conserve Energy and Save Money with Energy Monitoring

The Emporia Smart Plug allows you to understand how energy efficient your lighting and appliances are by allowing you to monitor how much electricity is being consumed. The plug sends the relevant data (securely) over a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network for you to observe and set your schedule accordingly.

That means the smart plug not only helps you conserve energy by setting timers to cut down unnecessary power consumption, but it can also help you save money in the long run.

People lead busy lives, and it's not always convenient to go running around unplugging devices every time you leave the house. The Emporia Smart Plug takes care of that problem by allowing you to turn your appliances on or off, wherever you are.

Schedules

Picture this, you're running late one morning, and just as you arrive at work, you realize you left the TV running. That may not sound too bad, but appliances like TVs, DVDs, and cable boxes can eat away around $57 per year.

If your lifestyle keeps you away from home for long hours, it can be challenging to keep track of energy conservation. However, that's not a concern with Emporia's Smart Plug. The device allows you to set a schedule for the appliance of choice, and that means you can create a personalized timetable to cut down the energy bill.

Voice Control via Alexa and Google Assistant

A lot of the time, energy wastage is a direct result of idleness or fatigue. Sometimes you're too tired to get up and switch off unnecessary lighting, and other times you're too lazy. Whatever the cause, the result is a higher energy bill that could have been avoided.

However, what if there was a way you could control your lights and electrical devices without ever having to leave your seat? That's where Emporia Smart Plug's voice assistant compatibility can help big time.

You can gain control over the device of your choice (via voice commands) by connecting the smart plug to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.

Remote Control via App

How many of us are guilty of leaving several electrical devices running when we leave the house? It's almost like leaving the tap running when brushing your teeth—you don't mean to; it just happens.

Technology has come a long way in making human errors that have financial and environmental consequences less costly for us to bear. That's what brings me to the Emporia Smart Plug's remote access (via the app).

Having remote access not only means you can control your appliances from anywhere, but it also means you can monitor your energy usage and extend your appliance's life too.

Wi-Fi Connection—No Hub Required

A lot of smart devices require the existence of a separate hub in order to unlock additional features like scheduling, timers, voice control, etc. But, that's not the case with the Emporia plug—all you need is a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection to get access to all of the plug's features.

Besides that, you can also integrate the Emporia Smart Plugs with the brand's Vue Energy Monitor with the single app. That means you can extend your understanding and control of energy consumption habits and apply that information to cut down on your bills—all without the need for a bridge or a hub!

Simple Plug and Play Setup & Installation

Some people can miss out on the advantages of technology through fear of the unknown. They're not comfortable with handling complex installation procedures that require wiring, etc. Thankfully, the Smart Plug by Emporia is of the plug-and-play variety, and you don't need to do anything except plug it into a 120-V electrical outlet

Once that's done, download the Emporia app on your smart-phone because the app can walk you through exactly what's required to pair the plug with your Wi-Fi. The pairing process requires pressing down the toggle switch on the plug to begin the process and then following the app's prompts.
