2. Adjust External Doorbell Sound
Many people using Ring doorbells have encountered the issue of the external doorbell sound. The doorbell makes a noise to the visitors after it’s been pressed. The question is – can you do anything about that?
As of now, you can’t do anything to change the external Ring doorbell sound. It is built into the device without the possibility to switch it for a different, more pleasant sound. One thing you can do, however, is turn the volume down so the sound doesn’t startle your visitors, or turn it off completely! From there, you can create your own makeshift external doorbell chime.
- To turn off the external doorbell sound, open your Ring app.
- Go to “Device Settings.”
- Go to “General Settings.”
- Here, you can choose to drag the volume all the way down to 0, so the doorbell doesn’t make an external sound at all, or simply lower it.

Do you have your own doorbell chime that you would like to connect to your Ring Video Doorbell Pro? In order to make it work, you need a compatible doorbell, a Ring plug-in adapter, or a transformer. Visit the brand’s official website or contact support to ensure you can connect your doorbell to Ring Video Doorbell Pro. Naturally, both Ring Chime and Ring Chime Pro work well with Video Doorbell from the same brand.
Having a wide variety of sound options to choose from is great because you can set the mood for any occasion. Choose from all kinds of sounds, such as Happy Birthday, Jungle Bells, Beethoven's 5th, and more.
If you are looking for a different doorbell other than Ring, you can opt for the Honeywell 450 or The iChime Doorbell. Both are excellent options with their own libraries of doorbell chimes. The iChime Doorbell allows you to record your own chimes too.
Chime Pro vs Chime
Ring Chime and Ring Chime Pro are two different doorbell models from the same brand. Ring Chime Pro is a more advanced model, offering Wi-Fi coverage for Ring devices and boasting dual-band 2.4GHz & 5GHz. Just for comparison, Ring Chime only has 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connectivity.
In addition to that, Ring Chime Pro has a night light built into the body of the device. The product comes with a guide, which is not only helpful during setup, but also gives valuable advice for choosing the right place for your Ring Chime Pro. If you are looking for a more advanced and easy-to-use model, you should definitely aim for Ring Chime Pro.
At the same time, Ring Chime doesn’t lag far behind. Both devices are easy to install. You can control both through your Ring Chime app on your mobile device. Naturally, both devices have the same ringtone choices, as they’re both connected to the same app.
The bottom line is, both devices are good. If you need a stronger Wi-Fi connection for your Ring devices then Ring Chime Pro is the obvious option. The built-in night light really seals the deal for many customers; it’s a nice touch. Both devices will do their job of playing a tune if someone rings the doorbell or there is motion detected.

I may be missing something in my search. I only have the camera and wondering is there a way to download additional alert tones to supplement those provided.
