If you have a Braeburn smart thermostat and are looking for instructions on how to use it, check out my guide for that here.

How to find your Robertshaw thermostat model number?

To accurately troubleshoot your thermostat, you need to find the right manual which means you need to know the correct model number. Depending on the thermostat type, the model number will either be printed on the back of the face plate or will be accessible through the user interface (Main Menu > Tech Support).

All the important information should be shown on the screen. You will see the number of the model in the top left corner.

Benefits of Upgrading to a Smart Thermostat

If you have an old Robertshaw thermostat, upgrading to a Braeburn smart thermostat is a smart move. The BlueLink 7205 model lets you control your heating and cooling from your phone and works with most heating and cooling systems. It's pretty flexible with scheduling and comes with a 5-year warranty.

If you need more features the BlueLink 7320 has a big touchscreen and can even control the humidity in your home. Both models make it easier to manage your home's temperature, and they're built to last.

More information on Braeburn's product range is available here.

Robertshaw Thermostat Troubleshooting

If your Robertshaw thermostat is giving you trouble then below is some general advice on how to fix the problem. Every thermostat is different though, so I recommend checking out the specific manual for your model above.

Wrong temperature reading

If your thermostat is showing an incorrect temperature, first check that it is properly calibrated. Check the manual above to learn the specific steps on how to do this.

If it's correctly calibrated, make sure the thermostat is not placed in an area where it can be affected by drafts, direct sunlight, or other heat sources that could skew the reading.

If recalibration doesn't fix the issue you might need to replace the temperature sensor or the thermostat itself.

heat pump troubleshooting

The AC keeps turning on and off

Possible causes of “short cycling” range from incorrect thermostat settings to a dirty air filter obstructing airflow.

First, check your thermostat settings to make sure they are appropriate for the current weather conditions. If settings appear normal, check the air filter and replace it if necessary.

Persistent short cycling may indicate a more serious issue like a malfunctioning control board or refrigerant leak in which case I recommend getting help from a pro.

Robertshaw thermostat has no display on the screen

A blank screen usually indicates a power issue. Start by checking whether the thermostat’s batteries need replacing. If the unit is hardwired, check to see if the circuit breaker has tripped.

It may also be helpful to check for loose or disconnected wires. If all these solutions fail then the thermostat may be defective and may need to be replaced.

Thermostat Not Working

Inconsistent heating or cooling

If your thermostat seems to be working but you're experiencing uneven temperature throughout your home, you might want to check for zoning issues or poor air circulation.

Make sure all vents and dampers are open and unobstructed, and that the fan setting on the thermostat is set to “Auto” rather than “On” to ensure efficient operation.

Delayed start on a Robertshaw

If your heating or cooling system takes an unusually long time to kick in after setting the temperature, it could be due to a delay feature in your thermostat. This is designed to protect your HVAC system from rapid cycling.

Check the manual above to understand if your thermostat has this feature and if so how to configure it. If a delay is not the issue, check for problems in the HVAC system itself.

We live in a condo built around 1985. A Robert Shaw Thermostat Model 400/405 is installed. Would you have installation instructions available for this model? Alternatively, is there a primary power source on the back plate as I am unable to see a C wire? What does the letter A stand for on the back plate where the wires are connected? Thank you for any help.

We recently moved into an apartment with a Robertshaw thermostat that controls both AC and heating (there are 2 separate units providing these functions). Our Robertshaw thermostat has a flip-up cover. The number at the base of the cover (when the cover is flipped up) is 300-201 R3, which does not show up on your website. A manual would be very helpful. Kindly send. Thanks.

I have a Robert Shaw thermostat in the home I just moved into, I don’t see a model number. It has a digital screen about 2 1/2 inches wide at the center of the thermostat, two buttons on either side, four buttons below, and a bar above with a lightbulb. Can you tell me what model this is and can I find a YouTube video to help me learn how to program it? If you email me I can send you photographs.

My thermostat is over 30 years old. The instructions call it a 300-252 model (on the flip-up thermostat cover. I actually have the manual…somewhere. It needs to be replaced (temperature readings aren’t ever correct). For now, I really only need an instruction manual. Any suggestions?

    Best regards,
