How to find your Robertshaw thermostat model number?

To accurately troubleshoot your thermostat, you need to find the right manual which means you need to know the correct model number. Depending on the thermostat type, the model number will either be printed on the back of the face plate or will be accessible through the user interface (Main Menu > Tech Support).

All the important information should be shown on the screen. You will see the number of the model in the top left corner.

Robertshaw Thermostat Instructions

Installing a Robertshaw thermostat is an easy task that anyone can do. Follow these simple steps to get on the right track. Remember, all thermostats are different. If these steps do not work for you, check your model’s manual.

  1. Turn power off.
  2. The HEAT-OFF-COOL should be on OFF.
  3. AUTO-ON should be on AUTO.
  4. Remove the protective cover and find where you want your thermostat.
  5. Drill in place of mounting holes and secure the body to the wall.
  6. Use wiring diagrams in your manual to secure wire connections.
  7. Determine your type of furnace on the ELEC-GAS switch.
  8. Depending on whether or not you’re using a heat pump, place the switch into HP or NON_HP.
  9. Place batteries into the battery compartment of the body.
  10. Snap the thermostat cover into place and turn on power to the system.

After you’ve installed your thermostat, you need to program it. Here are some tips:

  1. Press SELECT until you reach SET CLOCK.
  2. Press SET and use the arrows to select the HOURS. Do the same for MINUTES and DAY.
  3. Place the switch into HEAT position and press SET to program the first event of the week.
  4. Use the arrows to adjust the hour, minutes, and temperature.
  5. Press SET and continue until you’re done with all 4 events.
  6. Repeat the steps for COOL.

Robertshaw Thermostat Troubleshooting

Most thermostats encounter similar issues. Luckily, there are some you can easily solve with the help of your Robertshaw thermostat manual. Here are some of them:

Wrong temperature reading

If you’re convinced your thermostat is not showing you the right temperature, you’re probably right! A lamp or air infiltration from wall cavities could be influencing the reading. To solve that, seal the wall cavities and place any lamps far away from the thermostat. The temperature should return to normal.

The AC keeps turning on and off

This might happen because the temperature differential is too small. The thermostat will sense even the slightest changes in temperature and turn the AC on and off. Increase the temperature differential to avoid rapid changes.

No LCD screen

If your thermostat is battery-powered, perhaps the terminals of the cells are not touching correctly. Take off the battery compartment to see that everything looks good. It could also be the result of drained batteries.

Types of Robertshaw Thermostats

Robertshaw has a wide selection of programmable thermostats split among 3 main series: Economy, Value, and Premier. Each has its own benefits and target audience. One thing they have in common is quality. Here is a quick overview of each.

Economy series

As you can tell by the name, thermostats from this series are low-cost models. They are suitable for residential and commercial properties, and for anyone who is trying to save a little money. Even though they are inexpensive, they still have all the important features of a programmable thermostat. This is an excellent solution for spaces that don’t require complex heating and cooling.

Value series

The Value series offers models with value pricing. The quality remains the same, as each model is compatible with gas and electric furnaces, and heat pumps. There is a wide range of features and controls each model has. When you install the thermostat, you will see installation instructions on the screen.

Premier series

The Premier models are new and modern. The luxurious body of the thermostat gives it away! Though the price is higher, they also have more capabilities and features. For starters, there is an extra display for the remote sensor bus. The buttons on the thermostats can be locked.

About Robertshaw

Robertshaw has been around since the 19th Century. In fact, Frederick W. Robertshaw invented the thermostat as we know it in 1899. Thus, the company is truly the father of all thermostats. As time goes by, Robertshaw’s thermostats continue to improve and become more modern.

And the company doesn’t stop there! Robertshaw manufactures controls for other commercial and home appliances too. Visit the brand’s website to find out about their controls for washers and dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, storage water heaters, ice makers, and electric and gas cookers. Robertshaw even expanded to automotive temperature and fluid controls!

The brand has 12 manufacturing plants for the production of our favorite thermostats.

We live in a condo built around 1985. A Robert Shaw Thermostat Model 400/405 is installed. Would you have installation instructions available for this model? Alternatively, is there a primary power source on the back plate as I am unable to see a C wire? What does the letter A stand for on the back plate where the wires are connected? Thank you for any help.

We recently moved into an apartment with a Robertshaw thermostat that controls both AC and heating (there are 2 separate units providing these functions). Our Robertshaw thermostat has a flip-up cover. The number at the base of the cover (when the cover is flipped up) is 300-201 R3, which does not show up on your website. A manual would be very helpful. Kindly send. Thanks.

I have a Robert Shaw thermostat in the home I just moved into, I don’t see a model number. It has a digital screen about 2 1/2 inches wide at the center of the thermostat, two buttons on either side, four buttons below, and a bar above with a lightbulb. Can you tell me what model this is and can I find a YouTube video to help me learn how to program it? If you email me I can send you photographs.

My thermostat is over 30 years old. The instructions call it a 300-252 model (on the flip-up thermostat cover. I actually have the manual…somewhere. It needs to be replaced (temperature readings aren’t ever correct). For now, I really only need an instruction manual. Any suggestions?

    Best regards,
